Practical information
Schedule:

Preparing your child to the Montessori school
- Provide social experiences away from home and away from you. It is important for every child to learn to separate from parents and learn to feel safe and comfortable in the presence of other trusted adults. This is a critically important preparation for school because these experiences allow the child to discover that they can stay in other environments and enjoy themselves, relaxing and trusting that their parent will return.
- Talk to your child about school and reassure him about what will happen during his day at preschool.
When speaking with your child about the new school, refer to specific teachers by name so your child will begin to regard these people as familiar and trusted adults even before school has begun.
-
Allow your child to be as independent as possible with self-care routines. At school we have prepared environments which support the young child’s acquisition of independent life skills. Children who have been given many opportunities to be independent at home, especially with self-care, make an easier transition to school.
-
!! Consider your child’s ability to manage getting into and out of the clothing they wear to school !!!
-
Assure adequate sleep. A well-rested child is better able to manage every aspect of life. The children between 3-6 years of age require 10– 12 hours of sleep per day.
- Allow adequate time in the morning routine that your child can enjoy breakfast sitting down at the table, and avoid eating on the run, in front of the television or in the car.
- Parents might have mixed emotions about whether their child is ready for preschool. The more comfortable you are about your decision the fewer problems your little one will encounter.
-
Make your “goodbye” brief and positive. For the benefit of your child, please follow through on your departure after saying goodbye. When a parent says good-bye and does not leave, it creates a sense of fear in the child ( Maybe mummy's not leaving because something is wrong). As your child masters this new routine, the tears will cease. This is all part of the process of growing up, while at the same time helping to build a confident, self-assured child.
What to bring
1. Slippers that your child can take off and put on themselves ( labeled with your child´s name)
2. A pair of boots for playing outside ( labeled with your child´s name)
3. A set of spare clothes, including underwear and socks
4. Two photographs of your child ( passport size)
5.Toothbrush
Beverage
Water, herbal tea and milk or diluted fruit juice will be available all day and we will encourage children to drink and enjoy it.
Birthdays
Birthdays are very special days, and we have a unique and fun ceremony. A few days before, your child will need to bring one picture from each year of his or her life and a picture from the day he / she was born to make a timeline. You may also send a brief narrative of your child´s life on a separate sheet of paper.
During the birthday ceremony, all of the children sit in a circle on the floor around a candle that represents the sun. The birthday child walks around the circle carrying a small globe. Each trip around the candle represents one year in the child’s life. It is a wonderful concrete way for your child to experience his or her own growth.
Health
Please, do not send your child sick to school for the benefit of all of the children and the teachers. If your child becomes sick during the school day, we will call you immediately and ask you to pick your child as soon as possible.
Toys
The many Montessori materials available should be the focus of your child´s attention. Therefore, please keep all toys at home.
Classroom rules
We believe it is necessary to establish a classroom community where all children feel physically and emotionally safe. When children do not feel secure in their school environment, they can experience negative effects in their social and academic development. Therefore we spend a great deal of time in the early part of the school year establishing these rules and making sure all students understand what they mean.
•Use a quiet and respectful voice.
•Use a rug when working on the floor.
•Use materials carefully.
•Put your work away when you are finished with it.
•Be kind to one another.
•Walk in the classroom.
•Respect everyone in the classroom and allow others to work without interuption.
•The chairs are for sitting.
•While working on the table, the table is free of any other objects.
Show and tell
On Thursday´s ellipse each child can bring one special object he wishes to share. It can be souvenir from a trip, a book, a picture, meaningful cultural item from home, an object from nature. Please do not bring any toys!
Multilingual
English, French and Czech are the languages commonly used at school. The children will learn these languages through stories, ganes and songs in a very natural way. This exposure to different languages from a young age will allow the children to develop their communication skills as well as their acceptance and curiosity for people from different backgrounds.
Field trips
At the beginning of the school year all parents will be asked to sign a consent form for any school outings planned during the year. Parents who wish to accompany the group are gladly welcome to do so. If you do not wish your child to participate in a school outing, you agree to keep your child at home during the duration of the outing.

Parent-teacher conferences:
The most important goals of our curriculum are for children to get along with others and to become enthousiastic learners. We want children to become independent, self confident, curious learners and we are helping them to learn to self-evaluate their work and their behavior. At the conferences, the parent and the teacher exchange observations and information about the child, the teacher shares the child´s progress in school and is ready to answer any questions the parent may have.
Holiday celebrations
Democritus said that "life without festivity is like a long road without an inn". We encourage the families to share their cultural and holiday traditions with us. If you are interested in doing a cultural presentation in our classroom, you are welcome to do so.
